The new frontier of Internet is metaverse. There some who are looking with interest at personalizing internet, with significant results.

Communication and Internet

The development of digital communication has led to what today is the Net. The 3W or Word Wide Web, an idea that Tim Burners-Lee implemented in 1991, has been at the origin of global connections in those years when talented innovators exploited how to make local networks globally connectable.

There some who, having immediately cultivated the economic implications of global communication, decided to make themselves useful to the entire lonely and confused humanity. How? By creating and providing everybody with new ways of interconnection, what was previously unthinkable. Pre-requisite: free registration to what today we confidently call the “platform”.

Retrospectively, it is interesting to note that the services provided for free are the counterpart of the voluntary transfer of the individual data. The word data is to be understood in a broad sense. For example, if I publish a post on a platform which shows that I have a sore throat and the next day I add another one specifying that I have a fever, I will have intended to give the news of my state of health. I would have provided a detail that, especially considering that we are in the era of a COVID-19 pandemic, others will freely decide to share.

Algorithms, internet, metaverse

But a mathematical formula called an algorithm, which acts as a collector and aggregates the globally entered data, will intercept all information similar to mine and will ensure that someone (the owner of the collector) holds fairly accurate information on the progress of the pandemic. In this way, Big Data of immense economic value is generated through a mathematical formula as well as the free choice of individuals to participate in a hidden global survey on any subject and activity.

Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg’s famous platform, could reach new frontiers and precisely the so-called metaverso condition (metaverse). We refer to the virtual-meta-world (beyond reality), which inspired Neal Stephenson’s “Snow Crash” novel published 1992.

Not surprisingly, last July, Zuckerberg, during the presentation of the quarterly data, announced that he wanted to undertake a new project.

New frontiers

The Conversation journal has treated this subject in an article published on July 30, signed by Daniel Broby of the University of Strathclyde. The author hypothesizes that the most famous of nerds would intend to transform his firm into a metaverse company. So the connections between users would change according to the canons of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and, possibly, through the use of 2D devices capable of generating completely optical processing of the chips.

Internet and the change of Facebook

That’s a new and different feature of the most popular social media in the world. This is about three billion monthly users, if we consider the aggregation between Facebook, Instagram and WhatApp: a good start for change. Furthermore, it is worth adding that the Zuckerberg’s group includes also Oculus, a manufacturer of headsets, undoubtedly another industrial advantage for the famous nerd.

It goes without saying that if users of any platform can hide behind nicknames, many will do the same with VR and AR in which they can act even with their own avatar. Goodbye to keyboard warriors: from now on, animated warriors are on the way.

Come?
