Ólafur Eliasson’s green world is still on show at the Beyeler Fondation, in Riehen near Basel, till 16 July 2021. It is expressed through a new installation called LIFE. The Danish-Icelandic artist has long been part of a group representing the applied arts. They make scientific principles and creativity go together. So they create works capable to stimulate the debate around the environmental topic. If once sculptors, painters, photographers were avant-gardist tout court, today they are prophets committed to the climate change.
In 2003 Eliasson represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale with The Blind Pavilion. In his 2006 Your waste of time (Galerie Neugerriemschneider in Berlin) on display you found pieces of ice detached from Iceland’s largest iceberg, settled in a refrigerated room powered by solar panels . In 2001, his The mediated motion installation (Kurnsthaus Bregenz), he put up living environments, among them one with water, flora and walkways for the public pass over.
Now, with LIFE, Eliasson is connected with quiet landscapes in which man is not the only actor. In fact, he participates together with all other species in creating a common liveable space, in pacific coexistence.

Una nuova installazione dell’artista danese
Il mondo green di Ólafur Eliasson è alla Beyeler Fondation, a Riehen vicino Basilea, fino al 16 luglio 2021, con l’installazione LIFE. L’artista danese-islandese è da tempo parte di un gruppo di rappresentanti delle arti applicate che coniugano principi scientifici e creatività. Obiettivo: realizzare opere che sensibilizzino sulla problematica ambientale. Scultori, pittori, fotografi – da anni in prima linea sul tema del cambiamento climatico – se prima erano avanguardisti, oggi sono profeti.
Eliasson nel 2003 ha rappresentato la Danimarca alla Biennale di Venezia con The Blind Pavillon; nel 2006 alla Galerie Neugerriemschneider di Berlino esponeva l’installazione Your waste of time: pezzi di ghiaccio distaccati dal più grande iceberg islandese, contenuti in una sala refrigerata alimentata da pannelli solari. Già nel 2001, la sua installazione The mediated motion proponeva, alla Kurnsthaus Bregenz, ambienti vivi, uno dei quali con acqua, relativa flora e passarelle su cui il pubblico poteva camminare.
Adesso, con LIFE, Eliasson si riavvicina ai paesaggi quieti nei quali l’uomo non è il solo attore, poiché contribuisce, con tutte le altre specie, a creare uno spazio vivibile e condiviso, in pacifica coesistenza.
