Ukraine, the Kerson city Affair/ I russi pronti a distruggerla

Oleh Zhdanov, a Ukrainian military analyst, pointed out that the Russians would rather destroy Kerson completely than leave it to the Ukrainians. Unfortunately some quick considerations confirm such situation. When the war started, the city, despite being one of the country’s regional capitals, had just 280,000 inhabitants. Also, now it does not host any major military settlements.

Kerson, a crucial location

Anyway, its location is crucial, as it is on the road that the Russians could possibly travel along the Black Sea coast to reach Odessa. Furthermore, from Kerson it is possible to interrupt the flow of fresh water to the Crimea and this had already been done to create problems for the occupants.

The cause of such situation

If the very rapid advance of the Kiev army towards the East were to be successful, NATO would find itself in the dangerous situation of having to inflict a very heavy humiliation on the rival nuclear power and thereby make possible a reaction beyond the nuclear red line that has been discussed by months. It is clear that the technological superiority of US-supplied missiles, capable of hitting key points of Moscow’s logistics with extreme precision, is an interesting premise to the current situation.

Putin’s energy weapon retains some of its strength

Meanwhile, the calls for peace and diplomatic efforts are multiplying. But, on one side, the extremism of the Kremlin hawks and, on the other, the reaffirmed willingness of the Ukrainians to regain control of all the occupied territories is a dangerous matter. weigh. In fact, there are not chances for a ceasefire. Although Russia has shown military inefficiencies that no one would have suspected, Putin’s energy weapon retains some of its strength. The tenant of the Kremlin is forcing many European countries – and beyond – to modify their economic plans to cope with the winter and the costs of energy for industrial use.

The Ukrainian affair and the world economy

Western public opinion goes on wondering if defending Kiev’s sovereignty over 4 Ukrainian regions is a sufficient reason to destabilize a large part of the world economy or, worse, risk a widening of the conflict. However, the unknown of the future weighs heavily on a possible appeasement. Regardless of Putin’s leadership, the party that would like to recover other regions – not just Ukrainians – lost with the collapse of the USSR is very strong in Moscow. This is obviously unacceptable, given the proven unreliability of the Russians, who with the war violated the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, which guaranteed the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine, in word and deed.

Kerson, Una posizione cruciale
