Turkiye has woken up to a different democratic climate and a beautiful spring day following the municipal elections of March 31, yesterday. The CHP, the Turkish main opposition social democrat party, which is also the party of Ataturk the founder of modern Turkiye, has become now the first party of the country, standing 2,5 points in front of Erdogan’s AKP.

The CHP has won yesterday, all the major cities of Turkiye including Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, Antalya, Adana and received 37.7% of the votes from the Turkish electorate, where as the AKP, received only 35.3%. The CHP succeeded this great victory and democratic revolution with its new young leader Özgür Özel, also, with the great contributions of the Mayor of İstanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Imamoglu won again İstanbul with an amazing margin of 10 points for a new five-year term. Ozel and Imamoglu form together a great new dynamic leadership of the Turkish opposition and social Democrats. Ozel had won the presidency of CHP with a net victory margin in front of Kemal Kilicdaroglu who had remained as president for 12 years, losing several elections one after the other to Erdogan.

The Turkish nation has proven its commitment to the democracy and the ideals of Atatürk’s Republic, in spite of all the obstacles erected by the ruling party AKP and the exaggerated manipulations of the controlled media and State television TRT.

Among the main losers of this election is the right wing politician “Turkiye’s, aspiring Margaret Thatcher”, Mrs Meral Aksener. Unlike the 2023 general and presidential elections. She did not want to team with the social Democrat party and she wanted to enter the race all alone. “Free and independently” as she verbalized it. The result was a catastrophe as expected.
