The patriarch supports the war of aggression considering it a “metaphysical” necessity
It goes without saying that the West lived religion of war. Especially in the years of the Great War, when special sayings appeared, such as “the heroes’ paradise”, “the altar of the fatherland”, “the martyrs”, “the sacred soil of the nation”, etc. They came from a religious lexicon that has always been respected to justify the worst that men can do, namely war. The time of the Crusades was over for many centuries, but not the need to sanctify violence, legalized murder and all the other horrors that war brings with it. And Kirill aligns. In spite of the Bible, the Gospel and popes like Benedict XV who attributed to governments the responsibility for “useless massacres”.
The sanctity of violence justifies the disdain for human life
Perhaps one could more simply resort to the survival instinct that justifies self-defense, but this would have offered a weak, almost “animal” motivation to the warlike spirit. Too little to justify the killings, the bombings of civilians, the deportations.
The patriotic spirit had to be nourished by something else, by a “sacred mission” fruit of God’s will, so that the spirit of sacrifice of millions of “faithful” young people was severely tested. And it is not worth going further back to mention during the Italian Risorgimento the “holy cause” of the liberation of the Italian people, Mazzini’s motto “God and people” and other such contaminations.
The Nazi attack on Russia is the meta-historical key for the present and the future
Then came the “religion of blood” that German National Socialism invented. That party managed to bring together pseudoscience, politics and religion in an extravagant and tragically fanciful synthesis. These days we are amazed that the patriarch of Moscow Kirill has blessed Putin’s missiles that are killing children. News says that Kirill would be a former KGB affiliated and, even if he was not, he participated in that religion of the heroes of the Soviet Union who died in the great patriotic war and who were glorified like saints by millions of Russians.
Homosexuals would be criminals because they outrage the homeland, denying it the possibility of feeding on new lives, making the sacrifice of their ancestors useless.
It does not matter that Russia now is a backward country, unable to produce any good except weapons and hydrocarbons. The defense of this very sad defensive warrior identity is boud to be the main goal. And this is the base on which Putin every day builds his fable of the holy mother Russia under Nazi attack.

Che sia esistita una religione della guerra anche in Occidente è fuori discussione. Soprattutto negli anni della Grande Guerra nacquero espressioni come “il paradiso degli eroi”, “l’altare della patria”, “i martiri”, “il sacro suolo della nazione”, etc. Queste espressioni prendevano in prestito un lessico religioso da sempre rispettato per giustificare ciò che di peggio gli uomini possono fare, cioè la guerra. Il tempo delle crociate era finito da molti secoli, ma non la necessità di santificare la violenza, l’omicidio legalizzato e tutti gli altri orrori che la guerra porta con sé. E Kirill si allinea. In barba alla Bibbia, al Vangelo e ai papi come Benedetto XV che attribuivano ai governi la responsabilità di “inutili stragi”.
La sacralità della violenza giustifica il disprezzo per la vita umana
Forse si poteva ricorrere più semplicemente all’istinto di sopravvivenza che giustifica l’autodifesa, ma ciò avrebbe offerto una motivazione debole, quasi “animale” allo spirito bellicoso. Troppo poco per giustificare gli eccidi, i bombardamenti sui civili, le deportazioni.
Lo spirito patriottico doveva essere nutrito da ben altro, da una “missione sacra” frutto della volontà di Dio, perché fosse messo a dura prova lo spirito di sacrificio di milioni di giovani “fedeli”. E non vale la pena andare ancora più indietro per citare durante il Risorgimento italiano la “santa causa” della liberazione del popolo italiano, il motto “Dio e popolo” di Mazzini e altre contaminazioni del genere.

Poi venne la “religione del sangue”, inventata dal nazionalsocialismo tedesco, che riuscì a mettere insieme pseudoscienza, politica e religione in una stravagante e tragicamente fantasiosa sintesi. In questi giorni ci si stupisce che il patriarca di Mosca Kirill abbia benedetto i missili di Putin che fanno strage di bambini. Ma Kirill è un ex KGB e, anche se non lo fosse, partecipa di quella religione degli eroi dell’Unione Sovietica che sono morti nella grande guerra patriottica, venerati quasi come santi da milioni di russi.
Per essi la storia si è fermata là. Gli omosessuali sono criminali perché oltraggiano la patria, negandole la possibilità di nutrirsi di nuove vite, rendendo vano il sacrificio degli avi. Non importa che la Russia sia un Paese arretrato, incapace di produrre qualsiasi bene ad eccezione delle armi e degli idrocarburi. Ciò che conta è la difesa di questa tristissima difensiva identità guerriera, sulla quale Putin costruisce ogni giorno la sua favola della santa madre Russia sotto attacco da parte dei nazisti.
