“Graces” by Silvia Gribaudi in October 2020 for the next edition of Biennale Danza

The Venice Biennale prepares its autumn programs with a virtual exhibition The idea of the body, available online in the section of the Historical Archive: Merce Cunnigham, Steve Paxton, Julian Beck, Meredith Monk and Simone Forti.

20 years of Dance at the Venice Biennale is a story made of images. It starts in 1999, when the specific section was born and shows J. Beuys Song by Carolyn Carlson with music by Giovanni Sollima and Writings on Water, the solo with which Carlson greeted the Venetian public in 2002. And then there are Pina Bausch, William Forsythe with Brock Labrenz, interpreter of Nowhere and Everywhere at the Same Time, and Anne Teresa DeKeersmaeker, JiříKylián, Sylvie Guillem. And it is not finished yet. Eyes Off will be perfomed, conceived in Venice by Saburo Teshigawara as a tribute to Giorgione’s La nuda; TooMortal by the Anglo-Indian fusion choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh; Swan Lack and Thank U Ma’am, a Michael Clark diptych, inspired by the “holy trinity” of rock: David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. The 2020 live dance program in the Lagoon will start in October. A vast exhibition that treasures the archives of all sectors will be at the Giardini from the end of August.
